Top dressing is commonly used to improve lawn appearance and health, but it works best when used correctly. A thin, even layer can help level small dips, improve soil structure and support stronger grass growth. It won’t fix major drainage issues or heavily compacted soil on its own, but it can significantly improve patchy areas when combined with proper watering and maintenance. Applying too much at once can smother grass, so gradual application is usually recommended.
